Terms of Service

Safety first: Coasti is an informational aid, not a safety authority and not an emergency service. Conditions can change faster than our data. Always follow posted beach flags, lifeguard instructions, and official warnings, and use your own judgment. In an emergency, call 911.

1. What Coasti is

Coasti ("we", "us") combines official sources (NOAA, National Weather Service, FWC, Mote Marine Laboratory, county lifeguard programs) with community-submitted reports to give a quick read on beach conditions in Florida. It is provided as an informational convenience only. It is not a warning system, not a forecast authority, and not a substitute for official sources or on-site conditions.

2. Who can use Coasti

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you let someone else use your device or account, you are responsible for what they do with it.

3. Your responsibility and assumption of risk

Swimming, surfing, boating, and other water and beach activities are inherently dangerous. Conditions change quickly and data can lag reality. You alone decide whether to enter the water, and you assume all risks of that decision. Coasti's verdicts, flags, scores, and alerts are inputs to your judgment, never a replacement for it.

4. Alerts and notifications

If you opt in, we send storm, lightning, and conditions alerts by email or push notification. Delivery depends on third-party networks and services we do not control (email providers, Apple's push service, your carrier and device settings). ALERTS MAY BE DELAYED, INACCURATE, OR NOT DELIVERED AT ALL, AND ABSENCE OF AN ALERT NEVER MEANS CONDITIONS ARE SAFE. Do not rely on Coasti alerts to decide when to leave the water; if you can see lightning or hear thunder, get out immediately.

5. Community reports

Reports must reflect what you actually observed. Submitting false or intentionally misleading reports (e.g. fabricated hazard sightings) may result in account removal.
Reports are moderated for abuse patterns (e.g. coordinated bursts of matching reports from new accounts). Held reports are reviewed before publishing.
Official flag colors and safety verdicts are always driven by official data sources — never by community reports — so a single report can't change the safety verdict shown to other users.

By submitting a report you give us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use, display, and moderate it within Coasti. We may remove any report at any time.

6. Coasti Pro

Paid subscriptions are billed through your Apple account. Pricing is shown at purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple account settings; Apple's refund policies apply to App Store purchases. We may change Pro features or pricing with notice; changes apply from your next billing cycle.

7. Your account

You need a Google or Apple account to submit reports, save favorites, or receive notifications. You are responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from the account menu — see the Privacy Policy for what deletion does and doesn't remove.

8. Our content

Coasti's software, design, brand, and generated verdicts are ours or our licensors'. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app and site for personal, non-commercial purposes. Underlying government data (NOAA, NWS) is public; our processing and presentation of it are not.

9. No warranty

COASTI IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. DATA COMES FROM THIRD PARTIES AND CAN BE DELAYED, INCOMPLETE, OR WRONG. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, OR ERROR-FREE.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COASTI AND ITS OWNER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE OR YOUR DECISION TO ENTER THE WATER OR VISIT ANY BEACH. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places these limits apply to the fullest extent allowed.

11. Indemnity

If your misuse of Coasti (including knowingly false reports) causes a third-party claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of defending it.

12. Termination

You can stop using Coasti or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms (including false reports). Sections 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 14 survive termination.

13. App Store terms

These terms are between you and Coasti, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for any claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You represent that you are not located in a country under a U.S. embargo and are not on any U.S. prohibited-party list.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Florida law. Before filing any claim, you agree to email us at hello@coasti.app and give us 30 days to resolve it informally. Claims that are not resolved must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Sarasota County, Florida, or in small claims court where you live. BOTH SIDES WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO BRING CLAIMS AS A CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION.

15. Changes

We may update these terms as Coasti evolves. For material changes we will note the new date at the top and, where feasible, flag the change in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
